I still have mine but it's broken. Too many flashes screwed it up I think. It powers up and connects but then dies after a while. Not given up on it yet, will probably give it another try when I can be bothered. IT was my all time favourite router though...  :-[

Ive always wanted it...ever since i seen it cos i think it looks smart for a router, and like I say it has DGteam FW and DMT tool capabilties

I may put my GT on ebay...dunno, nice to have a backup that can use DMT tool etc..

hopefully, soon, someone will unlock the Sagemcom 2504N cos thats a good router too...even if the wireless-N is 150Mbps and not 300Mbps - it connects at better speeds than my GT

I also have a Speedtouch 585v6 and Speedtouch 780WL both ISP branded ones but I have an installer disc I source off the web (rare - cant get it now ... I dont think anyway) it installs settings onto various older speedtouch models even if they are locked out by the ISP brand on it :) - tried my 585v6 with sky , it connected to exchange but got no internet cos I needed to spoof mac address and couldnt do it - will work with most other ISPs though

i know!!

Iam puttin money on it that the bidder who won does not live nearby and either bid on it without realising or bid on it in hope he would post it once he realised the winning bidder wasnt local...(trying it on)... I was tempted to bid myself in hope of him posting it...

@ Thar - have you tried the Netgear Flashing Utility to flash it instead of the GUI? that does a proper flash (wipes it clean then flashes chip) the gui does a soft flash in that it replaces data in there in attempt too keep your settings, these flashes can cause problems - you need to run the util in XP though, you can get Hyrens Boot disc with Mini XP on it which runs from CD, I would imagine it would run from in that

Yeah, I used the flashing utility when I thought I'd bricked it. Like I said, it works, but falls over after a while, so is no longer reliable. It had a far better wireless range than any router I've tried since.

My son's PC still runs XP so I could give it another try. Weather not looking good for tomorrow so watch this space. I do miss the DGTeam and DMTtool tweakabilty.

hmmmmmmmm i got the router bug thats your fault snadge i want  a newwwwwwwwwwwwwww one lol

i want a n rated router im tempted on that one you just got snadge have you got it yet

does your netgear 834gt connect PPPoA or whatever it is and your sagem mer

i gotta be carefull cause at moment can connect with PPPoA and mer but if sky decide that its mer only then there aint many routers out there that can use with mer network (well what i read anyway on sky user site)

i know the billion 7800
and some netgears work with mer
i cant find the link on sky user but here is another

a few things to consider....

1) Sky will never be rid of their easynet Dslams as they need these for opt-out's, emergency fallback and use for temp provision when SVBN is unavailable ...PPPoA can only be used on these Dslams and not MER

2) Sky will have to ensure every single one of their customers has a new compatible router before they can de-activate PPPoA completely otherwise customers using older devices can not connect - I dunno if sky could do this via firmware updates, if so then i suppose it would be possible that all those people on SVBN that use PPPoA can be forced to use MER , however those on Easynet can not, if you do a tracert and you get easynet in 2nd hop then you are on an easynet Dslam and can not ever use MER until they upgrade your exchange with SVBN MSAN then move you onto it...

a good choice would be the Billion 7800N - this is same chipset for modem as the 834N Iam getting (Broadcom 6358) , it has 300Mbps wifi-N and Gigabit LAN ports, it also has IPv6 connectivity and ha firmare that works with MER and the SNR can be tweaked on it too - its not the prettiest of routers but is good one...

your on a BROADBAND ONLY MSAN ..same as what i was..  this means Sky have upgraded your exchange with SVBN but as you dont have the phone provision your on WLR3 (through BT) and BB only MSAN (rather than DSlam)

how too tell

1) EASYNET DSLAM - the 2nd hop would be easynet.net address
2) BROADBAND ONLY MSAN - the 2nd hop will be sky.com address such as 02d9d13e.bb.sky.com
3) BROADBAND & PHONE MSAN - the 2nd hop will be sky.com address such as dr2.enlba.isp.sky.com

oh and in broadband only MSAN (step 2) there is usually easynet address in steps 3-4 aswell

as for routers:
a good choice would be the Billion 7800N - this is same chipset for modem as the 834N Iam getting (Broadcom 6358) , it has 300Mbps wifi-N and Gigabit LAN ports, it also has IPv6 connectivity and ha firmare that works with MER and the SNR can be tweaked on it too - its not the prettiest of routers but is good one...

the billion has SNR tweaking built into it - although you dont need it cos your line is capable of 20Mb anyway, but it has it anyway - it works with MER too with latest beta firmware so you would be protected that way, I will probably get one myself later when I can afford one...

the billion is the one the hardcore users seem to go for... and DMT Tool works on it anyway cos the chip is 6358 but like I say it has SNR Tweaking built in

it is also Cable and FTTP ready with an eWAN port - this router can be used on cable or fibre, it has  Gigabit 1000Mbps LAN ports and IPv6 ready - it really is the one too go for, I only got the 834N cos I only had 10 to spend hehe - the Billion BiPAC 7800n sells for about 70-80 on eBay

if your getn an N class router you need N devices to make use of it, if any of your devices are G then it will not operate in full N mode, a special MIXED MODE applies, some routers just drop back to G i think

the 834N is a poor mans BILLION 7800N hehe - same chip with wireless-N and SNR Tweaking...just minus other features

cool

the 834N is a poor mans BILLION 7800N hehe - same modem with wireless-N and SNR Tweaking...just minus other features, the billion also has 3 ariels so will get better range as 834N has 2 (although there is a port for 3rd ariel on the motherboard but dunno if it would use it if one was connected, I may try it)

30 is an excellent price - if you look at completed listings they go for 70-90 on bids - you may be able to steal that billion for 40 or something, maybe you should check just to be sure but Flamey told me it works with MER and has SNR Tweaking built in, I know DMT Tool will work with it
