 I don't get it? It's still going though copper before it gets to your router, wouldn't it be better to have fibre all the way to the router? Or is that not possible?

There is its called FTTP, currently  extremely expensive to have installed  for domestic customers.
G-Fast is seen as a cheaper alternative, no need to lay new fibre etc.
