My laptop has a Netgear wifi dongle that is only wireless n, but my router is ac. would i be better off with an ac dongel, and if so which one do you reccomend.

if you lose your full broadband speed anywhere in the house (via speedtesting in all the rooms you use the laptop) then yes, if not then I wouldn't bother

as for the best have a look here:

NOTE: "802.11ac only works in the 5 GHz range which doesn’t travel as far as 2.4 GHz."

so Wireless-N if your using 2.4Ghz will travel further and give you better coverage in a larger house

Thanks Snadge it was just that there are a lot of others on 2.4GHz but no one else on the 5GHz.

then i would go for it as it could still be slowing it down
