Sky charge for On Demand!

So went to view some stuff on On Demand... I usually (when i use it) get stuff off the Discovery channel, I couldnt find it then saw that the 'channels' section was in the "TV BOX SETS" (sure it didnt used to be there?) and anything I tried to view (including free to air stuff like ITV Player, 4oD) it told me to "call sky and upgrade your subscription" - i went on their forum to ask about it and i read that its been changed and they have moved a ton of stuff into that section and started charging an extra 5 month for it as "Entertainment Extra ...Plus"  !!!

You apparantley get HD and 3D channel with this too...what they fail to point out is that you will only be able to view 3D programs that fall under you subscription (so if you dont have movies and sport then you cant watch those on the 3D channel) yeah we know that but Joe Bloggs dont.

Loads of people are kicking off on Sky Forums about it and rightly so I think. Sky are saying that everyone was sent letters about this but we didnt get any and thats what many others are saying too... I have had 1 or 2 asking to upgrade to HD for 2.50 but none of them mentioned the new "package" and its price.

BT, Virgin and Talk Talk will be all over this in their next TV adverts (im assuming they dont charge for on demand ... )  also I wonder how ITV and Channel 4 feel that their free programs are being 're-sold' - is that even legal?

what sky have sneakily done is brought their free service down to the same level as YouView etc and CHARGED for the rest of it!!

whats your opinion..

do you have sky+ on demand?

previously you could view stuff out of the 'TV BoxSets' section, there was also a "channels" section where you could choose channels from sky and see what they had available on there under various channels and watch/download it, I cant remember where that was originally, may have been in the 'Catch Up' section...anyway the "channels" section has been moved into TV BOXSETS and eveything in TV BOXSETS can not be viewed without upgrading your sub to Entertainment Extra Plus.

so if you dont have movie and sports then the only thing you can view is whats left in 'Catch Up' which is BBC, ITV, 4OD, 5OD, SKY1, NATGEO, HISTORY and these only show the last 7 days programs - everything else you now have to pay to view... ITV,CH4 also have stuff in the "TV Box Sets" section which is free-to-air stuff but you cant view it unless you pay.

what sky have sneakily done is brought their free service down to the same level as YouView etc and CHARGED for the rest of it!!

I heard about this. If you weren't subscribed to every package before the switch, you don't get the new "Entertainment Extra' package (something like that).

The Fall tv series had this but reading it never got me confused. Especially since I have pay-per-view spending limit set to 0.00 so I don't accidentally buy one.

Sky will be launching a service whereby you can watch material recorded on one box on your multiroom box soon.

it most certainly isnt me trying view porn or the sopranos lol

also we had the full package (entertainment extra) before they added entertainment extra plus... so thats not true either (about being automatically upgraded to EE Plus)

previously they had:

Entertainment
Entertainment Extra

...and all the stuff in On Demand that wasnt Sports & Movies was made available to download...

now they have:

Entertainment
Entertainment Extra
Entertainment Extra PLUS
(an extra 5 month)
...all customers remain on EE and need to call to upgrade to EE+ (unless its automatically included for those with full subs or HD subs...i dunno?) - TV BoxSets section in OnDemand is unavailable until you upgrade to EE+, the 'CHANNELS' section (where you could choose programs and series from about 40 different channels) is in the TV BOXSETS section... this means things like 'Discovery channel' and whole load of other stuff thats in there can not be viewed without upgrading to EE+

if you dont have Movies and Sports (and maybe HD as I dunno if they are giving people with HD access to it) then the only free On Demand is the 7 day 'Catch Up' - you can not view anything in Boxsets

can you go online and check your package and see if you been automatically upgraded?
do you have HD package?

can you try downloading and watching something from Discovery channel?

edit: ive found out your automatically upgraded if you had HD package before hand as its now included as one package (HD, BoxSets, 3D) for 5 month

@ steve-  if you dont and didnt have HD then I would check your account, they may have upgraded without your consent?

I JUST REPLIED THIS ON SKY FORUMS:

Quote
@ Chris - you say "This package was developed through feedback that Sky got from customers. Customer's wanted a smaller package that gave access to HD and 3D content. " - but I bet they didnt say "move Library items into boxsets and charge for that too..." - they would have said they wanted cheaper HD and 3D..and thats it?, sky have taken it upon themselves to lower the quality of "FREE" On Demand to that of YouView and move "Library" items into the boxsets section and start charging for it.. I bet you a million pound that the customers never suggested that, so to put this back to the customers suggesting its what they wanted is a but unfair/incorrect

also, I am on the forums regularly and I never heard of this package? also we never received any letters about this package?  imagine my woe when i tried to download from the discovery channel and it was blocked!

@ steve -  yeah, I dunno if they automatically reduce your payment though, going of experience they probably keep charging you 10.25 for HD but you get access to 3D and BoxSets too...maybe you only get access to boxsets?? i dunno about 'current customers on HD' other than they have access to boxsets - but 'new' customers will get 3D, HD and Boxsets for extra 5 on EE+ (note: on 3D channel you wont be able to view movies or sports without those subs too)
