Title: Plusnet contract up end of May
Post by: KRW on 23 April 2015, 22:00:47
What are the alternatives to Plusnet, currently thinking of Fuel Broadband http://www.fuelbroadband.co.uk/ (http://www.fuelbroadband.co.uk/)

Had thought of Origin but Jay9s post made me rethink them, don't want Sky, and exchange has fibre with cabinets waiting to accept fibre but NO fibre until October (probably later).

As much as I want fibre I'd would prefer a stable provider and if I get one I'll not bother with fibre, Oh how I miss Be/O2.

Talk Talk....they are good with good uk forum support but crap call support (which you dont need)

my dads got max speed for years and only had to contact them about the bill when he signed up - he gets 18Mb/s 1.4Mb/s

also very cheap

remember when a company says upto 16Mb thats just for legalities, they will give you more if your line can handle it

never heard of fuel but obviously a BT reseller which is fine, but dedicate LLu is best if you can get it, Fuel's 4 month has a star after it and i can't find out what that means

I know its 4 years ago but I had bad dealings with TT which cost me to leave. I had low speeds in the evening they denied congestion and promised a engineer visit on 3 occasions then claimed I was using too much bandwidth though they also said my usage was low. So its a no to TT. What's your view of EE.

for fibre they will give you same as any other unlimited/uncapped service ,of those plunet is the cheapest and offers best customer support,to get better you will have to pay for something like zen, which for same product is very expensive

Yes I don't like plusnet I was not happy in the result of the connection problems I had last November. Still not got the through put use to have 17+mb down and 1.1 up now never greater than 15.5/0.7  and this is because i use too much bandwidth. With Be/O2 and for the first 5 months with pn had no problem. Also before  November ping was 25-30ms now never below 40 and often at 60+.

As for fibre that's not an option its been promised for the 3 years. The cabinets were put in in Jan 14 and the exchange enabled Dec 14 but the cabinets planned update is Oct 15 and on past promises I'm sceptical of that.

plusnet adsl is a bt wholesale prduct which is well known to be dodgy no matter which supplier provides you with the  end product, the issues you have are more likely to be due to bt rather than plusnet, the best for adsl is sky if your exchange is unbundled, their service is superb and non reliant on bt wholesale to cock things up

sky were good with me (after my 3 month fiasco which really was BTo's fault)

that new one your looking at...is it a BT reseller or a reseller of a BT reseller ?... like the old ENTANET remember them..i went with FALCONNET who bought from ENTANET who bought from BT - i got good connection but was limited usage 30Gb day 300Gb night so downloading at night

i suppose if you get good reviews with fuel then give em a try, they should have a 28 day money back GT

i havent been on sky or any forums in ages

Thanks Snadge,

Steve got me thinking of other LLUs and my exchange C&W and they have a few virtual ISPs one being Aquiss, what have you heard/know about them.
Tesco used to be C&W but now BT I believe.

don't know anything about those unless C&W are the old C&W which became NTL which became virgin?,used to be with C&W on dialup which moved me to NTL,when ADSL became available on exchnge they were crap, too hgh a contention ratio it turned out,and was released from my contract, then moved to Nildram which was great for a few years until they got bought out, went downhill fast then so moved to Sky(I think, may have been one other inbetween) who were great on the LLU service, when FTTC was activated here moved to their FTTC service, which was also great, moved to Plusnet  fttc as a bit cheaper,I have had a few issues but it is always down to the openreach service not plusnet who have bent over backwards to get things sorted via openreach, still not sorted 100% but plusnet give me a pretty big discount for the hassle I have had so not got a problem as only 5mb down on what I should/did get,I get 71mb for just over 14/month

c&w were cable and wireless, seems it was CableTel that became NTL,yes Telewest and NTL combined, depending where you read NTL bought/took over Telewest, which the combined company was purchased by the Virgin group, originally all the cable tv in my area was installed by nynex/cable and wireless,I remember them installing it near where I had my milkround and causing traffic problems

Thanks but we do not have cable available (in fact not in the street at all) so only got BT adsl2+, LLU from C&W, Sky and TT (CPW).

I think I'll try Aquiss or Xilo there'll be a 14 day cooling period.
